The Left "Democratic Union of Medici" (La Sinistra "unione democratica dei Medici") is a left-wing political alliance in New and Improved Medici.
Originally, the Democratic Union of Medici was a parliamentary group between the socialdemocrats and the Greens. Since, The Left was proposed as an electoral alliance and was officially formed in February and development of a wider united left coalition. The socialdemocrats reached out to the Social Liberals, Volt Medici, Communists of Medici, and the We Can Party.
Currently, the coalition has 3 members; socialdemocrats, the Greens, and Social Liberal Party.
History[]
Formerly, the Medician left was represented by three main groups, with the left of center parties in the Blue Coalition, the center-left represented by Volt Medici, and the left-wing was represented by the big-tent Esci. In the 2019 Medici Legislative Election the Esci Black Hand! List won the election and would go on to nominate the first left lead government. The leader of Esci was officially Guilio Fauci, the leader of the Us with Fauci movement and nominee for Prime Minister. Guilio Fauci took office in a coalition with the Blue Coalition, the Populists, and Volt Medici support.
While Esci was united in governing, in policy making things were getting more difficult with a clear Left-Right split occurring within the coalition. The Medici Independence Party and Us with Fauci grew closer, while the Move for Medici and For the People movements grew united in decision making. The formation of the socialdemocrats in late 2021 created a united left front and the coalition grew weaker with the departure of Yulia Lapira's Us in Europe, which left to merge with Volt Medici after electoral success.
In January 2022 the Move for Medici and For the People announced their departure from the Electoral Pact, with the Move for Medici forming the Freedom Platform, and For the People joining the People's Force list. This left the socialdemocrats without any political backing and as a political splinter in Medici. As a result, the socialdemocrats began negotiating a joint parliamentary caucus between left forces, which would include: the socialdemocrats; the Greens; Volt; the Social Liberals; and the Communists.
In February 2022, the Democratic Union of Medici was formed between the Greens and the socialdemocrats. The Communists ended negotiations after opting to join the newly formed Agro People's Alliance. In April the Social Liberals joined the coalition. In June Volt followed.
Following the 2022 Medici Legislative Election Guilio Fauci stepped down from leadership following his defeat.
