Summary[]

Unlike the Black Hand prior to the rebellion takeover, the Solíno Military is the official military of Solís. The Solíno Military was formed after the Army of Chaos won the Solíno Civil War. It consists of a few hundred thousand soldiers, including Army of Chaos veterans, new recruits, or former/defected Black Hand. The Solíno Military is a very young army (almost six years old) and is still in the process of being converted from a rebellion to an actual military. It is divided into five branches: The Army, Navy, Air Force, STRATCOM and CENTCOM. The Military's weapons, vehicles and other equipment come from both the Solíno Military's own factories and other countries.

History[]

It has been nearly six years since the Army of Chaos took over Solís. After the Solíno Civil War, the Army of Chaos eliminated (almost) all Black Hand presence in Solís and led by Rico Rodriguez, formed the Solíno Military. Most of the remaining rebels who were veterans of the war formed the Solíno Military. Ever since, the Solíno Military has recruited new members, created new training programs, utilized its factories to produce equipment, and procured equipment from foreign countries.

After creating the basic foundations of the Military, Rodriguez transfered power to General Palawalski. Rodriguez no longer has any position in Solís' government or military, but before giving up position as Chief General he made Palawlski promise to strictly enforce a law against war crimes, to prevent a repeat of the war crimes in the Solíno Civil War should a war take place in the future.

Members[]

The Solíno Military consists of a couple hundred thousand military personnel, with about 80% being active soldiers. Soldiers of the military are either former rebels of the Army of Chaos, newly recruited soldiers, or former troops of the Black Hand who joined the military after losing the war.

Equipment[]

The Solíno Military is a very "young" army, being only a few years old, so it's still working on organizing the military, recruiting members, getting to know bases left over from the Black Hand, and more. The Solíno Military is not very rich, and it spends a lot of money doing those aforementioned things, so it does not have enough to maintain their factories and partially shut them down, resulting in these factories only being able to produce a little bit of equipment. Their research facilities are also partially inactive, since not much money has been given to them so they cannot research and invent new, higher-quality military technology. The Próspero company has ditched the Solíno Military, packed their bags and left Solís to help the Black Hand in other countries, since it is a company loyal to the Black Hand.

Hence, the best of the military's equipment is actually foreign militaries' equipment that the Solíno Military purchased. The military exchanges Project Illapa weather control technology (along with some money, but mostly Project Illapa tech since they are using money to grow the military) with other major global powers such as the US, Russia, China, and more, for the other militaries' equipment. Upon purchase, they modify foreign equipment to tweak it to their needs and preferences. Apart from buying equipment, the military also has its own tech and equipment (made by hired defense companies (not Próspero) and the Military's research departments and factories), but most of it is pretty low-quality and outdated (see paragraph above for explanation).

Branches[]

Like all other militaries on Earth, the Solíno Military is divided into different branches. There is the Army, Navy, Air Force, Strategic Command and above all the Central Command.

Army[]

The Army is the largest branch of the Solíno Military. It consists of over half of all soldiers in the military. The Army specializes in ground warfare. The Army patrols Solís, its military bases and its borders. The Army has many ground vehicles, including motorcycles, buggies, trucks, APCs, armored cars, IFVs, tanks, self-propelled artillery and more, as well as some air vehicles such as drones and helicopters. Most of the members of the Army are footsoldiers. A typical infantry soldier is equipped with only an assault rifle, a uniform and some very basic protection, but the most elite, specialized soldiers have primary, secondary and tertiary weapons, tactical and strategic equipment, camouflaged combat outfits, extended body armor, communication devices and more.

Soldier types[]

Main article: Solíno Militia.

Solino Military vanguard

Vanguards in a live fire exercise.

Infantrymen are the standard soldiers of the military. They are better trained and better equipped than the Militia. Infantrymen are the most common soldier: about 65% of all soldiers in the army are infantrymen. Their duties are to patrol Solís and defend and operate military facilities. However, they are typically deployed to more important areas/areas that are more likely to be attacked, such as borders and entrances to bases. Less important areas are occupied by the Militia.

Solíno Military Infantrymen are better equipped than the Militia. They wear a camouflaged combat outfit (colors depend on the environment they are deployed to) which has some pockets for them to store things. They are also issued a minimal protection bulletproof vest (rated Level II) which can protect them from small-caliber fire but not always block them. Instead of a cap, infantrymen wear a helmet which can protect them from debris but not bullets. They wield either the better [PLACEHOLDER] Assault Rifle, and each squad of infantrymen usually has one soldier equipped with a single grenade. Infantrymen have mediocre aim and use some tactics. They go through some training but have little to no combat experience.

Solino Military elite

A small group of Elites in an urban environment.

Elites are well-trained soldiers of the military. They are better trained and equipped than standard infantrymen. They are the second most common soldier. Elites often perform combat operations. When not on a mission, they are deployed to patrol the same place as infantrymen are. The difference between the jobs of an elite and a regular infantryman is not very noticeable: infantrymen and elites both patrol Solís, only elites guard the more dangerous/important places like terrorist hotspots or recently captured bases/recently neutralized terrorist hideouts. They are more or less a direct upgrade from infantrymen. Highly qualified infantrymen may be promoted to be elites.

Elites have pretty good equipment. They wear a camouflage combat outfit (colors depend on the environment they are deployed in) which has knee and elbow pads. They are also issued a Level III rated ballistic vest, capable of stopping small-caliber rounds and offering some protection against rifle rounds. The vest is outfitted with a chest rig that may have pouches and equipment attached. Elites wear a combat helmet which is rated to resist small-caliber fire. They wield either the [PLACEHOLDER] Assault Rifle, the [PLACEHOLDER] SMG or the [PLACEHOLDER] shotgun and a secondary [PLACEHOLDER] pistol. Elites have good aim and use a large amount of tactics. They are typically equipped with a few magazines of ammunition, some first aid equipment, a radio and a grenade.

Solino Military heavy support

Heavy support with an LMG. Big chungus.

These are the heavy units of the military. They support the assault troops by laying down suppressive fire on the enemies with their machine guns. Support troops are often on the frontline, just behind the assault vanguards. Support units are stationed at roadblocks and defensive points, but do not patrol Solís due to their extremely heavy equipment, greatly limiting mobility.

Heavy supports are equipped with ultra heavy armor and equipment, including a bulletproof vest/flak jacket combo armor suit that soaks up small-arms fire and resists indirect explosive impacts, additional shoulder, crotch and neck protection pads, a big chunky helmet, and an enormous backpack. They carry numerous ammo bags and resupply kits. Due to their ultra heavy equipment, they are the second least mobile soldiers in the military (second only to EOD specialists). With their heavy firepower and heavy armor, heavy support soldiers make a formidable enemy on the battlefield, but highly mobile and stealthy soldiers such as special forces can easily take them out by getting in close.

Solino Military Sniper

A sniper.

Snipers are the sharpshooters of the Solíno Military. They have incredible aim and are trained to take out enemies with a highly lethal 12mm [PLACEHOLDER] sniper rifle. With their pinpoint accuracy, snipers can almost certainly drop any normal soldier with one direct headshot. They are also equipped with a secondary [PLACEHOLDER] pistol which they use when the enemy comes too close.

Snipers are deployed to guard towers and vantage points of military installations, and snipe enemies from there. They play a very important role in defending military bases since while attackers approach the base, snipers can warn everyone else and snipe enemies while they are busy dealing with the frontline guards. Besides bases, snipers are also stationed at checkpoints and borders.

Snipers wear an extended camouflage outfit with a hood and mask. Additional camouflage accessories may be added to the uniform to make them to make them blend in even more. For example, snipers in a forest/jungle have leaves stuck on their outfits and snipers in deserts/snowy areas cover themselves with sand/snow respectively. However, they wear very light body armor, barely better than that of standard patrols. This combined with their lack of close quarters combat ability makes them very vulnerable to assault troops when up close.

Solino Military RPG

An alert, ready-to-attack RPG unit.

RPG Units are the anti-armor specialists of the Solíno Military. Like snipers, they are also deployed to vantage points, but sometimes they are on the ground, next to the frontline soldiers, but typically behind them. RPG Units wear the uniform of elites, the ballistic vest of vanguards (weaker and less armored than that of elites) and the army cap of standard patrols. In between the vest and outfit, RPG Units wear a flak jacket that can reduce damage taken from explosive-launched shrapnel. Elites can take more damage from gunfire but RPG Units can take more damage from small-scale explosions.

RPG Units are armed with the [PLACEHOLDER] anti-tank RPG. The RPG is powerful enough to penetrate the armor of an APC or an armored helicopter, and the explosive inside the rocket is powerful enough to shred apart most lightly armored vehicles. However, the [PLACEHOLDER] RPG is ineffective against main battle tanks since the rocket cannot penetrate the tank's several layers of protection systems and the explosion is not powerful to loosen and rip apart the tank's armor. From the front, it is would be inefficient to destroy an MBT this way since it would take several concentrated shots in a specific part of the armor. The rear and sides are usually much less protected, so RPG Units will often try to flank an enemy MBT and get some hits to the rear.

Solino Military shielder

A shielder, with several vanguards behind him.

As one can expect from their name, Bodyguards are infantry defensive specialists of the Solíno Army. Bodyguards play an important role in protecting VIPs. They are placed on the entrances of military bases, borders of Solís and the frontline. They also surround commanders, colonels and high-ranking, important people to protect them.

Bodyguards are equipped with a full-body bulletproof shield with a viewport made from bulletproof glass. Their body armor, protection and outfit are the same as those of elites: a bulletproof vest and helmet with a combat overalls. Their shield, made of composite steel, plastics and ceramics, are very strong and light enough for the soldier to carry. The shields is capable of stopping virtually all small-arms fire - anything short of .50 cals stand no chance of going through a previously undamaged shield. While very strong and durable, the shield is still vulnerable to gunfire: continuous gunfire will cause the shield to rapidly decay, and rounds may start to penetrate it, before eventually rendering it useless. An explosion from a grenade or anything more powerful are able to destroy the shield. RPGs and obviously high-caliber shellfire can penetrate and destroy it in one hit as well.

Bodyguards are equipped with the [PLACEHOLDER] machine pistol. When engaging in combat, bodyguards use one hand to lift their shields up to cover a majority of their entire body, and the other to shoot at the enemy with their [PLACEHOLDER] machine pistol. While difficult to kill due to their durable shields, they are not very effective against enemies by themselves. This is due to the fact that the [PLACEHOLDER] machine pistol is imprecise and very difficult to accurately control and fires weak, samll caliber rounds at low velocities. The high fire rate of the machine pistol makes it lethal against unarmored infantry, but not so much against armored targets, though. The [PLACEHOLDER] machine pistol is worse than all primary weapons that other soldiers wield, but still better than a pistol.

When in combat, bodyguards usually group up together and attack the enemy, trying to hit (or at least suppress) them with their [PLACEHOLDER] machine pistol. If there are any, other soldiers take cover behind them, using their more effective weapons to take out enemies while bodyguards provide cover with their shields. In a scenario where bodyguards are protecting a VIP, they will often put themselves between the VIP and the threat and lay down suppressive fire on the enemy while the VIP escapes.

Bodyguards are pretty well trained since it is difficult to fire a weapon with one hand and hold a heavy shield in the other, all the while being able to move.

Solino SF deployment

Special forces operators deploying from a helicopter.

The Solíno Military's Special Forces (SSF) are the best trained, most experienced, most skilled and most combat-capable super elite soldiers of the military. They are equipped with a wide variety of top-notch equipment, maximum-grade combat gear and advanced technologies. In order to qualify for the SSF, soldiers must go through many years of extremely difficult training and pass all physical, psychological, intelligence and sometimes even loyalty tests.

The SSF performs all sorts of dangerous special operations, including but not limited to airborne ops, covert ops, direct action, sabotage, assassination, special reconnaissance, unconventional warfare, and more. Soldiers of the SSF are outstandingly agile, and can do things like rock climbing, abseiling, using grappling hooks (not the way Rico does, though), running for hours nonstop while bearing a very heavy load, swimming and diving, crawling in prone position at high speeds, wingsuiting, parachuting, and much more. SSF are trained to be decisive in and outside of combat, and to improvise and think "outside the box" in operations. As special forces, they emphasize stealth and mobility over armor and firepower.

All SSF soldiers are extremely well trained, incredibly skilled and some are very experienced as well. They are trained to use effectively use a wide range of tactics and know when to use which. In combat, they will use tactics and strategies to achieve their goals and take out the enemy. Combat-wise, they have very good aim and can shoot extremely accurately, relative to the weapons they use.

When deployed into battle, SSF soldiers are issued ultra-high grade, max-quality equipment. Most of it is imported from other countries and then modified and customized by the Solíno Military to fit the Military's and soldiers' needs and preferences, but some of it is made by their own factories as well. On normal patrol duty, they can substitute any soldier, and outperform them in their specialty (for example, a special forces soldier on patrol duty substituting as a sniper would be better than a full-time, ordinary sniper patrol). As special forces, they have access to the Military's entire arsenal. On special operations, special forces seldom equip the heaviest possible gear; rather, they handpick the best available equipment suitable and beneficial to their mission. Unnecessary/extra items (such as excessive armor and stupidly heavy backpacks) are rarely used, as they will often limit their stealth and mobility.

In combat operations, SSF prefer durable camouflage combat overalls. However, when performing black ops, foreign internal defense operations, and undercover intelligence gathering operations, they will dress inconspicuously, usually in civilian clothing or the uniforms of local authorities, soldiers and officials to aid in infiltration.

In standard combat operations where hiding in plane sight is not required, special forces are allowed to pick any equipment they wish. Standard equipment involves durable combat overalls, a ballistic combat helmet, a Level III bulletproof vest with pockets for optional ballistic plate inserts to further increase protection (usage based on the soldier's preference and the operation itself), a chest rig over the vest to hold easily accessible equipment (again, usage is optional), and an optional backpack. Additional equipment may be carried for special missions (such as gas masks for tactical operations involving the use of harmful gas and night vision goggles for nigh ops), and depending on the soldier's preferences and the mission requirements. Equipment load and volume varies from minimally light to super heavy (although usually somewhere in between), all depending on the mission, environment and the soldier's preference.

As special forces, SSF operators have access to the military's entire arsenal, but their all-time favorite remains the SCR 1240-A, the carbine variant of the SCR 1240 modular assault rifle. The carbine is often equipped with a wide assortment of attachments, including the E-Tech Holo sight, a 3X flip-up magnifier, a laser sight/IR laser/tactical flashlight combo peq box, an extendable compact stock, a custom rear grip, a foregrip (vertical, stubby, angled, potato atc), and more. Suppressors are very popular among special forces and are used on virtually all special operations, as they greatly increase stealth capabilities.

SSF soldiers are trained to be not only familiar but skilled, efficient and lethal with any weapon type, but there are still specialists among special forces. In a standard assault team, there are assault operators, particularly skilled with the SCR 1240A, snipers, incredibly skilled marksmen, spotters, soldiers who perform reconnaissance ahead of the team, pointmen, who take point and are often outfitted with comparably heavier armor, and a support crew, a unit far but not too far from the action, providing air and artillery support, reconnaissance, intelligence, and more. Finally, command is usually a safe distance away, overseeing the entire operation. Of course, things are completely different for black ops, unconventional warfare and other untraditional operations, as the soldiers carrying out the missions do not stick to traditional military rank and roles.

SSF soldiers are the first to utilize the newest cutting-edge technology and high-quality equipment outside of testing ranges. For example, the Special Operations Tactical Assault Combat suit is finished being developed and ready for production; once produced, they will be used primarily by the pointman (usually the squad leader) of each standard Special Forces assault team (black ops and such are different, however). See section "SOTC Suit" under "Military projects".

Solino "paramilitary unit"

"Paramilitary units" rarely wear uniform or camouflage, to hide in plain sight by being indistinguishable from locals of the operation area. These soldiers are deep in the territory of an organized terrorist group (outside of Solís), with the operation being the assassination of a major terrorist leader.

These are de facto special forces operators, but momentarily expelled from the military while they carry out the operation. This is usually for operations in extremely sensitive political waters, such as the assassination of the leader of an enemy organization, so the operators cannot be traced back to Solís should they be gotten ahold of by enemies. De jure, they are known as "paramilitary units". These units usually consist of the best of the best, the special forces to the Solíno Special Forces, the Delta Force of the Solíno Military. During the operation, they maintain contact with some sort of command which reports back to the military but is de facto not a part of it. Should the operation be investigated, it would lead back to the paramilitary command, and not the military command, so the military can denounce this operation and save its face. In short, these "paramilitary units" (really super special forces that Solís is ready to disown in a heartbeat) do the dirtiest of the dirty work that the military wants to keep off the books.

Navy[]

The Navy is the second largest branch of the Solíno Military. About one in four members of the Military are part of the navy. This branch specializes in naval warfare. The Navy patrols the coasts and large lakes of Solís, as well as some naval bases. The Navy's arsenal includes many light speedboats and armed patrol boats, a moderate amount of corvettes, some destroyers and two aircraft carriers. Most of the members of the Navy are sailors on naval craft. There are a few footsoldiers of the Navy who carry out marine infantry operations. About one in four soldiers of the Solíno Special Forces are members of the Navy (they carry out marine operations, such as beachhead raids).

Soldier types[]

Sailors1

Some sailors who just passed basic training.

Sailors make up the bulk of the navys personel. They carry out every job that needs to be done aboard a ship, including basic tasks like cleaning it but also more advanced ones such as navigating a ship (under the observation of an supervising offivers of course). They usually carry a Pistol for self defense.

Sailor Supremos are the NCOs of the navy. They are sailors who just recently hot an promotion and are usually tasked with supervising, teaching and drilling Sailors if the situation requires it. Unlike the Sailors they carry an SMG.

Junior Captains are candidates to get promoted to Captain. To prove that they are worth it, they are given command over small vesels such as Conquisitador Alpha warships. They are trained in the basic forms of naval combat and are expected to handle dangerous situations with ease.

Captains are Officers, commanding bigger ships like Missile destroyers. They have proven themselfs multiple times in their trainig but also in the field. They are tasked with either commanding a single big ship or a small fleet of smaller ships, consisting of Conquisitador Alpha warships, Stormwater (Alpha) patrol boats and Daggershark Jetboats.

Like Junio Captains, these guys are candidates to get promoted to a higher position, in this case to Admiral. These have been actively serving for multiple years and have mastered every aspect of naval warfare at this point. Sometimes they are given command over fleets consiting of Missile destroyers or ,under the observation of an Andmiral, an Aircraft Carrier.

These guys are the brains of the navy. They coordinate multiple fleets at once from the savety of military harbors or from Aircraft Carriers. They are experienced and competent and the best of the best.

Only one person at a time can be Admiral Supremo, as these guys have complete authority over everybody else. They are always stationed at the naval headquarters, CCS Karkus and rarley ever step foot on a actual ship.

Air Force[]

The Air Force is the third largest branch of the Solíno Military, with about one in six members of the Military being part of the Air Force. This branch specializes in aerial warfare. The Air Force's main role is patrolling the borders of Solís, as well as some major military installations, since air domination is essential in modern warfare. Almost all fix-wing aircraft belong to the Air Force. These include fighters, bombers, attackers, strikefighters, fighterbombers, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, and cargo planes. In addition to these, the Air Force also owns helicopters, airships and more. The Air Force has filed many complaints to the higher-ups, telling them to get Rico to stop abusing blimps and cargo planes. There are a few infantry divisions that belong to the Air Force. The most notable example would be soldiers of the Solíno Special Forces that carry out aerial operations.

Strategic Command[]

Nuclear weapons[]

If the Military had any, STRATCOM would own and operate all nuclear weapons, although CENTCOM would be the ones in charge of them. For the weapons themselves, see the section "Nuclear weapons" in "Military projects".

Ranks[]

    • General Supremo
    • General
    • Colonel Supremo
  • Commissioned officers
    • Clonel
    • Lietenant Colonel
    • Lietenant
  • Non comissioned officers
    • Sergeant Major
    • Sergeant/Drill Sergeant
  • Enlisted ranks
    • Private
    • Trooper

Important members and key figures[]

  • General Palawalski - Current acting Chief General of the Military.

  • Mira Morales - Military advisor and liutenant.
  • Sargento - Colonel.
  • Tom Sheldon - "Uncle" and military advisor.
  • Cesar - ...Friend of some important people?
  • Zeno - Lead military scientist.
  • Many more, to be added.

Military projects[]

The Solíno Military does have a couple projects in progress, and a few more planned out but not yet started. This is largely because the Military is still pouring most of its money into overhauling itself from a rebellion to an actual military.

Project Illapa[]

Illapa tower

Project Illapa.

Ever since what used to be the Army of Chaos overthrew the evil dictatorship of the Espinosa regime, Project Illapa was immediately put on hold and has been ever since. The team that created Project Illapa was disbanded. However, after the Solíno Military is done organizing and building itself, the Military plans to reactivate Project Illapa and use it for peaceful purposes, such as steering a tornado so it doesn't destroy settlements, bringing rain to drought lands, harvesting lightning as sustainable energy, etc.

Nuclear weapons[]

Barely a year after its creation, the Solíno Military has already shown noticeable interest in nuclear weapons. It is quite obvious to the public that the Military wants to start a nuclear weapons development program. However, it faces a number of challenges, mainly budget and Rico.

Solís is incredibly poor after the war, although it is rapidly recovering due to its liberal government. However, it is still very poor. The Military doesn't have a lot of money. In addition, the spend what little they have on organization, recruitment and more, leaving little to no money on anything else.

Another setback in nuclear weapons development is Rico, dictator removal specialist, greatest stuntman of all time, and cargo plane and blimp abuser. Despite being the biggest explosion enthusiast on the planet, Rico is actually a supporter of world peace and human rights. He is also against weapons of mass destruction. It will be difficult for the Military to make such a large project without the current head of state authorizing it. Of course, Rico will be out of office soon and a new elected president will take his place, so it is not clear whether Solís will be a nuclear power (a very, very small one at that) or not.

SOTAC Suit[]

An accurate and realistic model of the suit.

The Special Operations Tactical Combat suit (SOTAC suit or SOTACS) is a powered exoskeleton suit designed for the Special Forces of the Military. It is currently being developed by a team of military scientists. The development is led by Zeno.

The SOTAC Suit is intended to greatly enhance the agility and strength of the wearer, as well as offer him much more protection than normal body armor can. The SOTC Suit should make it possible for the soldier to bear much heavier loads, continuously run faster for a longer period of time, jump higher and survive higher falls. Additionally, the SOTC Suit should protect the wearer against projectiles and such more than a normal bulletproof vest can. It should enhance protection and agility at the same time.

The design is complicated and largely based off the US' TALOS and Russia's Ratnik, with a few minor parts based off designs from other countries. The Military obtains this information by trading Project Illapa technology with said countries.

In short, the suit will be an frame that fits the shape of the wearer. It will have robotic hydraulic limbs to provide additional strength to the soldier's arms and legs. There will be a battery pack on the back that can recharge from solar panels. The limbs will have moderate protection and armor. The torso will be heavily protected by several protection systems, the primary system being a composite armor plate fitted onto the torso part of the mechanised exoskeleton frame. The soldier's head will be almost fully concealed by a lightweight yet bulletproof polymer helmet with vents to breathe.

Trivia[]

  • The Solíno Military is a lot larger and much more popular than the Black Hand in JC4, mostly because it does what a free country's military does: protecting the country and its people, rather than oppressing them and generally doing everything the leader wants them to.
  • The Solíno Military also has better equipment than the Black Hand because now that Solís is a good, reliable country, many more countries' militaries are willing to sell high-tech, high-quality military equipment to them. Nobody wanted anything to do with the Black Hand simply because they are mercenaries that work for evil dictators.
