Navy Day is a fictional mission for Just Cause 3 in fiction by GMRE.

Focosa Tridente

Introduction[]

The mission would be set between the missions Of Cows and Wine and Connect the Dots.

The mission trigger is at some coastal settlement in north-west Insula Fonte.

Walkthrough[]

Mario and a few generic rebels are waiting at the mission trigger. They have arrived in a Stria Toro and a Urga Szturm 63A.

They're on a platform that provides a view towards the sea.

[Cutscene begins.]

Rico: "You said there's a problem with invading Insula Dracon?"
Mario: "Yes. Come take a look."

He hands Rico binoculars. The camera changes to show Citate Di Ravello through the binoculars. There's a big warship near the city. The ship is about 250 meters long. It has a lot of missile launchers and small gun turrets and a large radar on top of a mast. The rear end has a helicopter landing area with two parked Urga Mstitels.

Mario: "We're unable to send ships to Insula Dracon, because Di Ravellos flagship, the Focosa Tridente is dominating the sea with its long-range missiles. We can only send few fishing boats and smaller civilian boats to smuggle stuff and even those have to take a long southerly detour to not raise suspicion. A proper invasion fleet is completely out of the question."
Rico: "And we can't just take out this one ship? I've seen the rebels already fly a few Navajos and even Thunderhawks that we captured from the local bases."
Mario: "No. That ship has a missile arsenal like no other. In fact, it's an all-around good ship. Good anti-ship missiles, good anti-aircraft missiles, good radar, torpedoes, ... you name it, the Focosa Tridente has some."
Rico: "Is there any good news?"
Mario: "We know that the ship will be stationed near the city for at least another week to celebrate the coming Navy Day. But really, even that comes with a problem: The ship has constant air-cover from multiple helicopters."
Rico: "Oof."
Mario: "Tell me about it."
Rico: "I suppose, I could try to avoid missiles and land my wingsuit on it. ...Or I could call in a favor from some friends and try to sneak up from below."

[Cutscene ends.]

The player has 2 options to choose from: "Aerial assault via wingsuit" and "Stealth approach from below".

Aerial assault via wingsuit[]

If the player chooses this option:

[Cutscene begins.]

Rico: "I'll get on the ship, armed to the teeth. If everything goes well I won't need backup, but have your guys ready when the explosions start, just in case."

Everybody drives away.

[Cutscene ends.]

At this point the next goals are to "Arm yourself" and "Begin the assault". This means that the player has infinite time for preparations. To continue, the player needs to wingsuit through a circle in the sky, from where it's possible to wingsuit the rest of the way to the ship.

Should the player try to simply explore the ship, they'll find it very well armed with a combination of missiles and gun turrets that will deter any approach, most likely killing Rico at 500 meter range.

Flying through the ring continues the mission. The player will have to dodge a number of missiles and pass helicopters on their way.

Landing on a marked area at the front of the ship will end the ships own missile attack, but a lot of well equipped sailors come out of various doorways. The helicopters (4 of CS Navajo) would continue their attack, but they could be grappled to the ship. Conveniently, the ship has a lot of corners and waist-high edges to take cover behind. The same navy NPC should be present as crew for any other Medici ships. The smallest boats could also be crewed by army soldiers.

Looking at any of the doors where the navy soldiers came from would reveal a second set of closed doors. Rico would complain about "blast doors" and "double armor".

Fighting your way to the rear of the ship would lead to an enterable area directly under the helicopter landing area.

Stealth approach from below[]

If the player chooses this option:

[Cutscene begins.]

Rico communicates via grappler, typing for a short while.

Mario: "Well?"
Rico: "To the airport and make it snappy! My buddies at San Esperito have just the vehicle for the job. It'll arrive soon at the airport."

Everybody enters their cars and drive off.

Camera jumps to the civilian airport next to Guardia Plagia II where they'll arrive.

Rico (looks at his grappler): "Should arrive any time now."

An Alexander AX-14 cargo plane approaches and flies low over the airfield. The rear cargo doors are open and a parachute pops out, which pulls out a platform with a large wooden crate. The crate platform slides for a short distance along the airport and stops.

Rebels open the crate.

Rico: "Ahh... There it is."
Mario: "But it's so small. Is it a piloted missile?"

Camera angle reveals the vehicle. Some players might recognize it immediately.

Rico: "Nope. It's it's an Underwater Scooter for long underwater trips."
Mario: "I see."
Rico: "I just hope there won't be any extra large mines around the ship."
Mario: "Rico, what kind of a dumbass navy do you think Di Ravello is running? What kind of a person places mines around their own ship, especially "extra large" ones?"
Rico: "You'd be surprised how many times I've encountered extra large sea mines in the immediate vicinity of what they're meant to defend."
Mario: "I guess you're the expert."
Rico: "Let's get it to a dock. I'll attack at night."

[Cutscene ends.]

At this point the next goals are to "Arm yourself" and "Begin the assault". This means that the player has infinite time for preparations.

Should the player try to simply explore the ship, they'll find it very well armed with a combination of missiles and gun turrets that will deter any approach, most likely killing Rico at 500 meter range.

The next mission trigger is at a random dock in north-west Insula Fonte.

[Cutscene begins.]

There's a Stria Obrero and some rebel cars next to the dock and the scooter is in the water, under a small crane that must have loaded from the truck.

Rico (in the water, at the scooter): "I'll get on the ship, armed to the teeth. If everything goes well I won't need backup, but have your guys ready when the explosions start, just in case."

He puts on an oxygen mask that connects to the scooter with a small hose and grabs the controls.

[Cutscene ends.]

Drive to the ship.

Along the way there will be a number of random mines (on the surface, as they normally are in JC3) and a number of patrol boats. Travelling under water, they can be ignored. Getting closer, a few Corvettes arrive and start dropping depth charges. These are basically explosive barrels that explode on their own. Not using the scooter would make the mission impossible, because Rico can't hold his breath forever in JC3 and he needs to move faster than he can swim to avoid the depth charges. Going to the surface would be deadly as the ship would launch its missiles.

The target area is the rear end of the ship. Upon reaching this place, the Corvettes would stop their attack. Grapple to the ship and enter the opening under the helicopter landing platform.

Inside the Focosa Tridente[]

JC3 artwork (ship explodes)

The Focosa Tridente explodes at the end of the mission.

It's a dangerous maze of various machinery rooms, crew cabins and vertical missile launch tubes. There are many well armed navy soldiers on the ship. Fighting your way towards the front of the ship, you'll have to place explosives on a number of pieces of equipment. There is no limit on how many GE-64 the player can place during this mission, but detonating them will fail the mission, because Rico is still on the ship.

Half way through the ship is the reactor room. There's a bavarium reactor. Entering the reactor is deadly. Place some explosives around here too.

Eventually, you'll get to an exit ladder near the anchor winches.

[Cutscene begins.]

Rico climbs the ladder and exits through a small hatch at the front tip of the ship, near the anchor chains. The camera angle shows the ship from the front. Rico pushes a button that triggers the explosives and dives off the ship.

A series of internal explosions go off inside the ship, with fireballs coming out through various hatches. It ends with an enormous explosion from the middle of the ship that splits the whole ship.

[Cutscene ends.]

After the mission[]

The wreck is in two halfs with the middle having completely been blown away. The water is shallow enough that the wreck can be explored by diving, but any entrances are blocked.

Trivia[]

  • When Rico mentions that "You'd be surprised how many times I've encountered extra large sea mines in the immediate vicinity of what they're meant to defend." he's referring to both Sink the Buccaneer and Kem Sungai Floodgates.
  • When Rico says "To the airport and make it snappy!" it's a quote/reference to the 1942 movie "Casablanca", where the main character famously said the same to a taxi driver.
  • The method by which the crate is unloaded from the Alexander AX-14 cargo plane is a real way that military cargo planes use to quickly unload cargo from a plane with out having to spend time on a landing. This is rarely done to cargo that needs to be on a special platform.
