Karthstan officially, The Republic of Karthstan is a country in QWTF spy's rebooted Just Cause project. Located in southeastern Arabia, situated between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the country is ruled by a totalitarian dictatorship and a hotbed of insurrection that threatens to tear Karthstan apart. Karthstan is led by Supreme Leader Said Farrah who is considered to be one of the oppressive dictators in the world. Formerly, Karthstan was a democracy but it was subverted by Said Farrah who took power in an election in 1991 and quickly turned it into what it is now in a matter of months.

Despite these factors that push Karthstan to the brink of collapse. The country itself is one of the richest countries in the world, richer than the UAE.

Description[]

Karthstan is a mainly desert nation with a beautiful coast its neighbours are the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. It has excellent relations with all three of them. Its animals are like every animal common to the Middle East, its capital city, Kahnushahr, has one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world only rivalled by Dubai.

Karthstan's other cities are Al-Sharma, Biyadh, and Al-Fakkalla. Many insurgent groups operate in the countryside and are frequently known to attack military units some sectors of Karthstan are cordoned off to the public as the fighting has gotten so bad they have become warzones. 4 factions are currently fighting against the government. The Free Karthstani Army (FKA) is led by former military captain Saleem Khairi seeking to restore democracy, the Socialist League of Karthstan (SLK) led by communist leader Fadel Shaadeen. The League intends to create a communist state that its cadres long awaited for. Al-Rahmani led by Mubarak Farrah the nephew of Said Farrah, he and his organisation on a jihad to remove Mubarak's infidel uncle from power and establish an Islamic emirate, Al-Rahmani has many connections to various terrorist organisations in the region. Corestar Security Policing (CSP) is a PMC operating in Karthstan, however, they don't seek power but rather want to destabilise the region as much as possible to turn the country into an anarchic chaotic mess so they can turn a profit. Their head of operations in Karthstan is an unproven former CIA agent Erik Hunter who previously worked in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It's 2014, the country is in a crisis, a crisis that could end the Farrah Regime. Rico must align with either faction so he can topple Said Farrah and could lead to one of four endings.

History and culture[]

The country of Karthstan didn't exist until 1891 before then it was apart of the Emirate of Nejd a precursor to Saudi Arabia. When Nejd collapsed, Karthstan broke apart and became an independent nation. Its government at the time was a confederation of nomad tribes who are described as "rural goatherders with rifles". The confederation was not unified and the many tribes tried to gain power over each other, this endless bickering led to war in 1901, during the time of the war, a man named Faisal Abdul Ishaaq Abdur Al-Zaher though his name would later be shortened to Abdur Al-Zaher. During the Nejd days, he was an insignificant Nejd prince whose father died in the Battle of Mulayda. He secured power in one of the tribes and subsequently unified the nation in 1905, turning the nation into an Islamic monarchy with him as king. The new monarchy was an oppressive government on similar lines to Saudi Arabia. It had come into conflict with the Sultanate of Nejd who wanted to include Karthstan back into its territory. Karthstan repelled its invader and later became allies. Abdur died in 1926 and his son Ayoob became king, at this point corruption became increasingly rampant in the government and new political movements calling for political alternatives increased in prominence.

Eventually, the corruption became widespread and major demonstrations were being held in the capital. The army cracked down on the protests and started a civil war in 1955, democratic, communist, and royalist camps started fighting each other. Democrats won the civil war and killed King Adeeb before signing a peace treaty with the Communists to start a new democratic republic. This democracy was poorly thought out, bribing politicians was a legal practice, however, Karthstan's economic fortunes were changed when oil exports were expanded in 1960 and Karthstan became a member of OAPEC in 1970. Its political fortunes began to look less unfavourable as the SLK started to commit unrest it was thought that the communists would launch an insurgency. Its poor democracy began to fell in despair as Karthstan become the biggest producer of oil, in this state little known politician Said Farrah subverted Karthstan's political system and gained power in an election in 1991. Farrah threw democracy out the window and installing him as Supreme Leader. He permanently suspended elections, killed political opponents including Munsheer Mohammadi (SLK leader) and President Faaid, wrote oppressive laws and created a secret police. Anyone who would protest was either killed on sight or sent to a brutal labour camp. At this time, the remaining opponents fled into hiding and started an insurgency against the government.

There are many ancient coastal forts from Karthstan's Nejd days inspired by those in North Africa. Karthstan is full of these ruins, castles, and villages, all of them abandoned and left to time. Karthstan was apart of the Rashidun and Abbasid caliphates, Karthstan adopted Islam and is one of the biggest undisputed religions in the country with 70% per cent of the population as adherents.

Karthstan is a republic under a totalitarian dictatorship led by Said Farrah. The dictatorship is opposed by 4 main factions in an ongoing insurrection.

Many countries on the peninsula are authoritarian. Karthstan would trump all of them for its widely totalitarian government.
