Just Cause X2: Defy Extinction is the second JCFF project made by IronClaws.

JCX Series Canon[]

Just Cause X2: Defy Extinction completely ignores the events of Just Cause 4 and its DLCs, and retcons the events of Just Cause X: Global Exchange; however, the timeline of JC3 and prior to it is considered canon, with some retcons to the main canon mostly considering the organization of Black Hand and The Agency.

Differences with Main Canon:

  • Black Hand is not a "private" military based on Solis, but rather a global superpower, a military and geostrategic alliance of nations, similar to the Warsaw Pact, which can be considered its predecessor. It includes the Black Raj, Iran, Russian Federation, South Africa and Australia, as well as a dozen smaller states. It's driving the world towards right-leaning Technocratic agenda.
  • The Agency is a circle of conspirators made by several NATO intelligence services, most notably the CIA, MI6 and CFINTCOM; with its allies within the "Deep State" of American politics. The group is driving the Western world towards left-leaning Globalist agenda.
  • Solis is not a center of Black Hand operations worldwide, but is barely a significant place where the creation of the Alliance was signed in 2008, after the Munich speech.
  • Bavarium mining is not limited to Medici, although as the mineral is asteroid-based and Medici is the primary impact site of the said cosmic rock, it's incredibly rare anywhere else. However, synthetic Bavarium could be created in special facilities, but the process is even more expensive then the refined "natural" ore.
  • Obviously, events of JC4 and further on do not take place in this timeline.

Differences with Just Cause X: Global Exchange

Synopsis[]

After the Global Crash of 2021, a series of events raging from global pandemics unseen from the times of Spanish Flu to the oil market breakdown and a huge earthquake that shattered northern regions of Western Europe and Mediterranean coast, times of turmoil befell upon Earth's nations, big and small. Riots swept across the globe, from Paris to Moscow, with Black Hand violently suppressing the dissenters and bestowing draconian measures to quickly revitalize the Bloc's economies. And while some companies break and shutter, the other ones benefit greatly from massive bailouts and disintegration of their competitors.

In the Askabjǫð archipelago, an abnormally warm climate island chain in Bering Sea, local Onkilon tribes as well as several brigades of workers rebel against the ruling company, the Endron, and declare themselves an independent state - the Free Republic of New Libertatia, a homage to the once existing "Pirate nation". As the volcanic archipelago is mined under international law, the United Nations is locked in endless debate, with its main powers vetoing each other from openly providing military support for either side.

With the European Union struggling to rebuild its economy after the Crash and the Agency bogged down in the Middle East, the Black Hand (ironically) takes the upper hand in the ongoing conflict, sending relief transports and covert operatives to help the Endron Security Forces still holding ground at Askabjǫð corporate headquarters region. The "public" goal of the Alliance is simple: to secure the strategically important chain of islands to control the Northeast Passage, as its trade importance getting ever stronger with global warming taking it's full effect. However, the real goals of the organization are far more secretive, and lie far beyond the public knowledge...

Alyph Niner, or simply A9, is a Shetani Warrior and a customizable protagonist of Just Cause X2: Defy Extinction. He is sent to the islands to conduct an investigation of the ancient ruins that lie on the far eastern side of the archipelago - a remnant of the World-that-Was, an advanced super-civilization that vanished in the global war during the times of Mesolithic age. It's a ruin beneath the ruin - a massive rumble of modern city, destroyed by the seismic event of the Global Crash, canyons filled with hulking remains of the industrial monstrosity. Black Hand Technomages that covertly rule the organization set their eyes on the mystical site, and no price is to tall in the hunt for ancient artifacts.

With the Black Hand's involvement, the situation is quickly turning for the worst for the riff-raff forces of the Free Republic, and as the Act II starts, the Connection comes into play - the European counterpart of The Agency, a secretive united body of the most powerful EU intelligence services. With UN Peacekeeping Forces flooding the western regions of the Askabjǫð, the war quickly becomes a proxy-conflict of the world's superpowers, akin to the Korean War of the 1950s. Yet, despite the advanced technology, tactics and training, European forces still fall back under the savage might of the Black Hand demon warriors.

With the conflict coming to its end, the passage to the ruins of Gwarch Ó Duibhir - an ancient Sector Command bunker - is finally open. However, a new threat rises from the mists of Heitrheimr island. Black Hand supply routes and bases are raided by the unknown, spirit-like creatures and their masters, seemingly wielding the same psychic powers as Shetani. These are the tribal sentinels of Onkilon nation, guarding the sacred grounds with their army of spectres, helped by African warriors that came to help their kin to fight of the ressurected daemons of Shetani and their Technomage masters. A new kind of war rages across the ancient battlefield, that decided the fate of the world long forgotten.

In the heat of the battle through mortal and pirit planes, the Agency finally shows up on their White Submarines; completely aware of the power that ancient relics of forgotten technology holds, they are preparing to nuke the island with a barrage of Trident SLMBs. With the fate of the world lying beneath the Heitrheimr canyons, and nuclear armageddon drawing near, Alyph decides to destroy the ancient base before the situation gets out of control...

But with a major twist, being a trickster he is, it is your choice that'll decide the fate of the ancient power; it's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.

Setting[]

Just Cause X2: Defy Extinction is set in the Askabjǫð archipelago, a weather anomaly that created distinctively different climate zones over the small area, raging from snowy, greyish fields of north-west to the tropical oasis near the volcanoes of south-east, and to the red sands of Heitrheimr, reminiscent of the darkest corners of Kyungastan. It has bio-domes and modern automated facilities of Endron corporation, and century old ruins of the 1920's mining grounds. The atmosphere is dark, traditionally for JCX series, but is far more diverse then in Just Cause X: Global Exchange. Despite the difference, the end-game levels are even more hellish then AirEx station squalor, being a spirit-infested canyons that chewed over city blocks and factories, a nightmarish maze of black and red mist, a burial ground of the long-dead civilization.

Factions[]

  • Black Hand Task Force Firecat - a regiment-sized elite forces detachment of the Solis Pact deployed on the Archipelage in hopes of securing the strategic region and finding the mysterious ancient ruins; Alyph is the part of it.
  • Endron Security Forces - a megacorporation that is in hold of natural resources over the island, granted supranational rights by the WTO in 2023; allied with Black Hand.
  • The Connection - European Intelligence services conclave that is competing for control of the island chain; their primari assault force are UN Peacekeeping mission aka UNPROFOR.
  • Bilolo - traditionalist shamans of onkilon people and their allies from Africa; freedom-loving, anarchist-like group of mages that controlls spirirts and is guarding the tombs of the World-that-Was, keeping the ancient technology safe from the imperialistic Tehcnomages of America and Black Raj. Their primary "strike force" are the Libertatia rebels and their allies, as well as cat-pawns in the Connection.
  • The Agency - another circle of Tecnomages secretly controlling America and it;s closes NATO allies, opposed to the right-leaning Technocrates of Black Hand.
  • You.
