The Fourth Civil War of Medici (1937 to 1939) is a historical event in the New and Improved Medici project and fiction by GMRE.

Fourth civil war of Medici

Setup[]

The Spanish Civil War, fought between the fascists (supported by Italy and Germany) and communists (supported by Russia) began in 1936. Russia was interested in using Medici as a naval base to better support the large-scale efforts in Spain.

The Medici Communist Party was founded in 1937 and set up relations with Russia. Russia immediately began supporting them and sent them weapons to begin an armed takeover of Medici. The weapons arrived by ship at Porto Tridente.

The war[]

There isn't any specific moment the war began. It started in the form of small shootouts between the Medici Communist Party and Medici Police Department members during the summer of 1937.

The Medici Military had not participated in the First World War, so they hadn't fought any real wars in a long time. The Medician army was quite poorly armed, but the Medici Air Force (or rather, the Hirundine Squadron, which was the only aerial unit of the Medici Military at the time) was well equipped with contemporary biplanes. It was thanks to their support that the communists advanced as slowly.

By October of 1937 the communists had captured most of Maestrale and all of Rocca Blau. During the winter the communists invaded Insula Lacrima. Lacrima had no military garrison and was relatively underpopulated, so they surrendered immediately.

At this point Russia started to officially support the Medici Communist Party and sent the cruiser Krasny Voronezh to support the action. Medici had no way to fight off a ship that size, so supported by the powerful gunfire, the communists began advancing through Libeccio.

In the summer of 1938 the communists invaded the area just east of the government-controlled Vulture airbase, in an attempt to surround the main government army, but they weren't able to do this, so that front remained without change until the next year. The base itself did not have any massive concrete buildings yet, but the area around it had the most fiercest fighting.

The communists managed to capture Capite Est, but their advance further south was stopped when the government army blew up the bridges.

In August of 1938, Italy gave Medici two submarines, in exchange for certain trade deals. This proved to be the turning point of the war since Medici could now sink the Krasny Voronezh and several Russian cargo ships. Without further Russian supplies, the communists front collapsed and the war was over by March 1939.

Aftermath[]

Most of the remaining Medici Communist Party members were arrested and some went underground (metaphor for hiding) in fear of being purged.

The Communist Party was banned from further activity until the early 1980s.

A total of about 20,000 people died in the war.

Some former members of the communist party apparently joined the Communists of Medici.
