Plot[]
While Adele and Cameron guard the laptop, Garland, Mira, and Sheldon check up on Rico, who is in the next room. Mira opens the door, only to be shocked in horror of what she saw. Garland moves her aside to calm down and she and Sheldon both see what has happened. Rico's eyes are bloodshot, his hair is messed up with chunks of it on the floor, his clothes are stained with his sweat, and he lays stiff on the bed.
Sheldon tries speaking to him, but it is no use. Mira then comes in the room, fully recovered from the shock, and also tries talking, which still has no effect. Garland, seeing that talking has no effect on Rico, sticks her hand in his mouth, which would wake up almost anyone. This is no use, so she sticks her head in there, which is to no avail. She then comes to the conclusion that they need an expert.
Sheldon agrees, and goes to his laptop to contact Izzy, who is the only one who can reach them from Deliwu. He asks her if she is done with the problem with the AR lens, with her informing him that she needs one more day. He tells her Rico does not seem to have that long, describing his condition. He asks if Hem is where she is, but she tells him that she went south. The only people with her are Brook and some civilians.
She gets Brook to come over to her cabin, as she has knowledge of Rico's DNA. This means she may be able to tell what he is going through. With Brook now at the computer, she asks Sheldon what Rico's symptoms are, and he tells her. She reports that, according to her studies, he should have a few days left before the oxygen levels in his body becomes too low for him to survive.
Fortunately, that is much longer than what Izzy needs for fixing the AR lens, so they decide to wait for this day to come while monitoring his vital state. The next day, they (Adele, Cameron, Garland, Mira, and Sheldon) come together to find a way to bring Rico back to normal.
Garland suggests going into his mind to see how they can cure him. Cameron assumes this is another idea from one of her movies, with her denying it but opening the possibility of it being a movie plot in the future. Mira sees this as a good idea, asking how they are going to do it.
Adele says that the White House has a bunker under the East Wing that has recently been updated with equipment that could help and can be a safe space for them and Rico. Sheldon moves Rico's bed, which has wheels, to this bunker while the others follow, with Adele holding the laptop. Once they enter the bunker, the mission ends.
Trivia[]
- The title is similar to Conflicting Interests from Just Cause 3.
- A few working titles are listed below:
- "Came Here to Regret"
- "Chasing Shadows"
- "Conflict of Unrest" (this was really close to being the final title)
- One definition of a conflict of interest is when someone's personal interests could compromise their judgment, decisions, or actions.
- This is the last mission in the M-C pattern section (a part of Act III where all missions start with the letters "m" and/or "c". This means the next mission will not begin with either of these letters. However, future missions can still start with them.
- The title card background is meant to resemble the D.R.M. flag from Just Cause 3.
- Despite some of his hair being on the floor, none of his hair seems to be missing on his head.
- This mission confirms the existence of a mainland in Deliwu.
- From now on, main missions will be listed as storyline missions rather than main storyline missions.
- However, since this mission is a half-hour long, it counts as a special.
- The bunker is the Presidential Emergency Operations Center.
