The Autonomous Region of the Sawah River is an unrecognized autonomous area surrounding the Sawah River, in the Just Cause: Panauan Horizon project.
The Sawah People have existed since the days of the Ular Tribe. While the Ular Tribe and the Sawah People are one of the same, the Sawah People are a fraction of people that make up the Ular Tribe. Around this time, the Sawah People exclusively resided in Central East Tanah Raya and the Southern Pelaut Archipelago, all where the Sawah River is situated.
While the Sawah People prefer to live in peace and unity with fellow natives and locals of Panau, they fell under the protection of the Ular Boys for the better half of two decades - since the rule of Papa Panay, or before. However, during the Baswedan Administration, the Autonomous Territory of the Sawah River would create the Sawah People’s Militia, and would closely partner with the Ular Boys and the other native militias and gangs.
History[]
During the Panay Administrations[]
This section encompasses both Papa Panay and Pandak Panay's administrations
The Autonomous Region of the Sawah River was a relatively silent area and community. While the Sawah People are considered to be Panauan natives, ranging all the way back to the Ular Tribe, the government would only classify individuals belonging to the Sawah River as members of the Ular Boys.
No official government or territorial recognition would ever be given to the Sawah People, or to the Autonomous Territory of the Sawah River.
During Fadil Baswedan's Administration[]
The Autonomous Region of the Sawah River is not officially recognized by Fadil Baswedan's government. However, several members of the military who oppose, disapprove, or lean against either the president's administration, the president himself, or the government overall, are more likely to recognize or at acknowledge the Sawah People and their autonomous region.
During President Baswedan's first administration, the Autonomous Region of the Sawah River would remain in favor of the Federal Government of the Republic of Panau, despite them not receiving any recognition from President Baswedan. However, during his administration's second term, the Senja Selatan would push north into Eastern Tanah Raya. During the Battle of South East Tanah Raya, the Sawah People would create the Milisi Sawah (Sawah Milita) in order to defend their homes and the river. However, after fierce fighting in and around South East Tanah Raya, members of the Milisi Sawah would retreat up north into inner East Tanah Raya, or up to the Sawah Lake.
During this time, President Baswedan would prove to have a weaker stance towards defending East Tanah Raya, despite pushbacks from the Panauan Air Force and the Panauan Army. However, the Autonomous Region of the Sawah River would fall to the Senja Selatan.
Occupation under the Senja Selatan[]
Members of the Autonomous Region of the Sawah River would be given official recognition as an autonomous territory within the territory of East Tanah Raya. The Armed Forces of the Senja Selatan would mostly leave members of the Autonomous Region of the Sahar River alone. However, documentation of the Sawah People's mistreatment would be documented by the Sons of Pandak - the Senja Selatan's official state militia.
The Milisi Sawah would be designated as a domestic terrorist organization from the Senja Selatanian government, and any members or supporters would be shot or imprisoned on sight.
The Sawah People would migrate north into the Pelaut Archipelago or make a daring escape into the Berawan Besar Mountains in order to flee living under the Senja Selatanian government, or to flee their persecution.

Political Party[]
The Autonomous Region of the Sawah River has an official party within the Panauan political sphere. Their party is known as the "Sawah People's Representation Party." They have at least a few seats in the Presidential Tower in Panau CIty. However, they do not have a sufficient population and do not win elections. The Senja Selatanian Federal Government frequently endorses the party, although the Sawah People's Representation Party denies and rejects their endorsements every time.
