The 2022 Medici Legislative Election is an event in New and Improved Medici.
Description[]
Medicians will elect their members of parliament for the third term of both Chamber of Deputies and Senate.
Electoral system[]
In Medici, the Chamber of Deputies of Medici used the multi-member constituencies of sizes proportional to the population of the area. Candidates were elected with proportional representation for any electoral list that passes the 5% national threshold. In 2021, a 7% threshold was introduced for coalitions entering parliament.
In the new electoral system, the number of deputies was reduced to 190, with the electorate voting for one regional (Regional lists e.g. Insula Fonte, Insula Striate, etc) and one local candidate, either in a settlement status constituency (e.g. Manea, Olivo Moro, etc) or a provincial constituency (e.g. Prima, Trio, Sirocco Sud, etc). Voters living in a settlement constituency cannot vote in the provincial constituency.
The Senate of Medici uses single member constituencies. There were many constituencies within each province. Candidates are elected using a first-past-the-post system, with no threshold allowing independents and local candidates to be elected without the backing of major parties.
In the new electoral system the number of senators was reduced to 84, with voters voting for 2 candidates in each province, and 1 in each city/town, with exceptions being Regno which has 4 senators, and Insula Lacrima who elect 2 senators regionally.
Parties[]
Forza Popolare - The People's Force is a centre to right-wing political party, believing and promoting Conservative, Christian democratic and Agrarian values. The leader of the party is Oscar Dante who is also the party's Prime Minister candidate. The party has primarily campaigned on education, economic policy and on European integration. The slogan of the party's campaign was "One Medici once again."
Federazione Medici - Federation Medici is a right-wing political party promoting Medician nationalism as well as Interventionist economic policy. It is lead by Erico Andreotti, a former independent senator affiliated with the coalition. Since his takeover of the party, the party moderated and officially denounced Di Ravello in 2021.
Di Ravello Movement (D.R.M.) - D.R.M. is a far-right political movement, which advocates for a return of a military-lead government and Di Ravello's policy. The movement once again was brought to national attention when the former leader of the Front of National Unity and Federation Medici, Diego Di Domizio, joined the movement and became its leader.
Alleanza Agro Popolare - The Agro People's Alliance, AAP, is a left-leaning Agrarian party founded by agrarian leaders in Insula Striate. The party formed an electoral agreement with the Communists of Medici party campaigning on agrarian socialist ideas.
Blocco Unitto di Opposizione "Nostra Patria" - The United Bloc "Our Fatherland" (List name: United Opposition Bloc) is a right-wing electoral bloc formed by several right-wing parties, including the Christian National Party, the far-right Take Back Our Medici and Medici is First parties. Several members of the Federation Medici also joined the Bloc. The Bloc campaigned on nationalist and conservative policies, with an agreement between partners to remain neutral on Europe.
La Sinistra "Unione Democratica dei Medici" - The Left "Democratic Union of Medici" is a left-wing political alliance formed by 4 of the major left political parties in Medici; the socialdemocrats, Volt Medici, the Social Liberal Party, and the Greens. The alliance was formed for the elections after the fall of the Esci coalition and later the Fauci Government. Fauci became the PM candidate and the alliance campaigned on economic justice and social equality.
Partito Comunista dei Medici - The Medici Communist Party is a far-left political party and up until the election the second major communist party in Medici. The party is described as pro-Russia and anti-western. The ideology of the party is considered as Stalinist and Marxist Leninist. While its leadership still continues to promote a pro-Russia foreign policy, the electoral success in 2022 was considered to be thanks to the rise of politicians in the party which focus on Medician issues.
Platteforma Libertate - The Freedom Platform is a centrist liberal party in Medici formed as the merger of the Populists with Rosa Manuela and the Move for Medici. The party is lead by Leopoldo Luisi, a Manuela ally and PM candidate. The party campaigned on liberalising the economy, paths to European integration, and completing to reverse all remaining Di Ravello policies. The party received the support of many ex-rebellion leaders, including most significantly Mario Frigo.
Alleanza Liberale - The Liberal Alliance is a liberal and nationalist political party. It was formed by the We Can and FREEDOM political parties. It was formed as an alternative to the Freedom Platform opposing its Pro-European views. It campaigned on economic freedom, nationalism and eurosceptic policies.

Aftermath[]
Shortly after the election, The Left - Democratic Union of Medici's PM candidate Guilio Fauci announced he would step down from the alliance's leadership, and soon after the social-democrats leadership.
First coalition talks started between the Freedom Platform and the United Opposition Bloc, however they soon came to a close after multiple disagreements and Milo Parola refusing to vacate the PM position. Then the first coalition agreement was signed between the Freedom Platform, Forza Popolare, and the Liberal Alliance, who agreed to a common program. However, they lacked a majority. The coalition talks were extended to the Agro People's Alliance, and after many economic concessions, forcing the coalition to move to the left economically, a governing coalition was formed.
With the coalition agreement, Leopoldo Luisi would become PM, with Oscar Dante as his deputy. The AAP would take on 4 ministries, most importantly the Minister of Agriculture position, one of these positions was filled by a member of the Communists of Medici.
