The 2019 Medici Legislative Election was an event in New and Improved Medici. Medicians elected their members of parliament for the second term of both Chamber of Deputies and Senate.
Turnout for the election rose by about 5% since the last legislative election, but dropped by about 12% since the 2017 pesidential election.
Esci won the plurality of votes followed by the Populists and the People's Coalition.
Electoral system[]
In Medici, the Chamber of Deputies uses the multi-member constituencies of sizes proportional to the population of the area. Candidates are elected with proportional representation for any electoral list that passes the 5% national threshold.
The Senate of Medici uses single member constituencies. There are many constituencies within each province. Candidates are elected using a first-past-the-post system, with no threshold allowing independents and local candidates to be elected without the backing of major parties.
Parties[]
Communists of Medici - The Communists of Medici are a Catholic, agrarian, socialist party. The leader Davino Asta announced he will not run as the Prime Minister candidate but the regional leader of the Communists, Beato Bellanti. The campaign focussed on 're-socialising' Medici.
Blue Coalition - The Blue Coalition is a centrist electoral coalition that ruled Medici until the election. It's leader is Prime Minister Ulfo Cervone and mainly campaigned on continuing democratic reform in Medici. Members of the Coalition are European Medici, Freedom Party (L!BERA), and the Liberal Socialist Party.
Federation Medici - Federation Medici is an electoral alliance of Far-right Di Ravelloist parties. It was formed by the Front of National Unity and Conservative People's Party, however the Conservative People's Party has left the alliance and now only contain the Front of National Unity and Independents in the Senate.
Medici is First - Medici is First is a far-right party lead by professor Bellino Botta. The party is anti-immigration and extremely conservative, however rose to popularity as the pro-European force in Medician politics. The main campaign promise was a referendum on accession to the EU, and to bring stability to the people of Medici.
Di Ravello Movement - D.R.M. is a third position party lead by Eleonera De Rocco. It campaigns to suspend free elections and find a successor for a military leader of Medici.
Populists with Rosa Manuela - The Populists are a party lead by President Rosa Manuela. Ahead of the election the deputy leader, Leopoldo Luisi, a member of the 'economic faction' of the party, was selected as the Prime Minister candidate. This lead to the populists focussing on economic liberalism instead of social democracy. The party became popular among the middle class and rural voters. The Minister of Justice left the party during the campaign, joined the Us with Fauci, and resigned from office. Leopoldo Luisi became Minister of Justice in the meantime. Despite the crisis the party kept to it's economic liberal and populist ideology and became the largest party in both houses of parliament.
People's Coalition - The People's Coalition is an electoral bloc of centrist forces, campaigning on conservative ideals. The leader of the bloc is Oscar Dante, the leader of the People's Force and grandson to former president Dante. The bloc consists of the People's Force, the We Are Still Here party, the Change Party, the Minority Front and the Conservative People's Party. Oscar Dante became the prime ministerial candidate of the bloc and they ran a program focusing and developing rural areas, reducing taxes and traditional values. The bloc became popular amongst rural voters and small towns.
Volt Medici - Volt Medici is the Medician branch of Volt Europa a pan-European Euro Federalist party. It was formed simply to secure Medici a spot in the EU.
Esci Black Hand! - Esci Black Hand is one of the newest electoral list formed before the election. The grouping is seen as left-wing, with focuses on welfare, and social justice. The main issue the grouping focused on is expelling all remaining Black Hand forces left within Medician borders, which the Cervone government failed to do. The Esci branding originates from a left-wing protest movement which saw the new democratic government as corrupt. The movement united parties from the right to the left, under a anti-corruption and anti-establishment program. Five parties joined the electoral list; the liberal Move for Medici, the conservative For the People, the left-wing populist Us with Fauci, the progressive Medici Independence Party and the social liberal Us in Europe.
Take Back Our Medici - Take Back Our Medici was founded by mayor of Olivo Moro, Milo Porola, who was elected in a by-election after the death of the former People's Force mayor, Luigi Conte. It is a anti-establishment social conservative party. They were accused of racism as a result of their Sea Border campaign, saying 'Medici has a responsibility to prevent illegal migrants from crossing the Mediterranean. Milo Porola was elected to the senate and the niece of Dante, Guilia De Petro, succeeded him running with the People's Coalition.

Government formation[]
Esci was awarded the mandate to form a government. One of the leaders of Esci, Ivano Ferrantino, presented his preference for a majority anti-establishment government. This would include Esci, Volt Medici, and the People's Coalition which would not have given a majority. The People's Coalition announced that they will not join a government lead by a "radical leftist". This lead to a new coalition plan.
Rosa Manuela approached Esci once again to form a government, suggesting a different PM candidate. The Us with Fauci and Medici Independence Party refused and Guilio Fauci was given the mandate. Esci's government was accepted by a majority. The coalition was formed between Esci, the Populists and the Blue Coalition, with Volt confidence and supply.
